Getting the Most out of the NEW WEBSITE version 2

Editor: Ron Keyser
Date: 2023-06-26

The 2023-24 ECC Board has moved to a new software platform for our website by installing Curling Manager software. We look forward to presenting a professional look for ECC online, as well as, improving communication and access for our membership and the general public - especially to new and younger curlers in our community.

For the general public, the new website provides a great deal of information about our Club, Leagues, Events/Calendar (including Bonspiels), Facility Rentals and News/Photos/Sponsors, etc. You will be able to register for club Bonspiels and other special events directly on the website. Of critical importance is an entire section devoted to potential New Members who will be able to find useful information about our leagues, membership fees and how to join the club. We utilize an on-line registration system that will walk you thru selecting various memberships, fees and discounts and any other options. During Annual Registrations we generally have available on-site help for registration purposes - contact or visit us when registration opens (usually around August 1st and at our Social & Registration Night in September).

Please spend some time and explore the various menu options. For ECC members there will be some additional menu items that will appear after you have logged in.

For our members, this new software platform will provide a better communication platform and is purpose-built software with many great features that up until now, we have not taken advantage of. This article will hopefully help you to understand some of these features.

All members (new and returning) will have been issued a username and password by the new system which will allow you to login to the club website. If you forget your username or password there is a link on the login page to request your user name and/or password. Under the Members menu choice there are several “How To Articles” that show you how to reset your user name and/or password.

Once you login to the new system, you will see a new menu item appear called Member. You will also be taken directly to your Member Dashboard.  This area contains club AND specific info related to you. For example, you will see any Club Notices, Upcoming Games, Scheduled Practice Time (that you have reserved), Spare requests (that have been “published by” other members), Upcoming Events (public and member only) and any Recent Emails that have been sent out by the Club.

The benefit of the Recent Emails section is that if you have not received an email from the club, perhaps because it was blocked by your email program, it is still available for you to review from the Member Dashboard. Many members have problems with email going to their Spam or Junk folders and they never see it. If you do not know how to white-list emails from the club, this is an alternative way to view the email.

After you have logged in and looked at any of the above, you may want to update you profile information by clicking on “My Profile” under the Members menu tab. There are four main tabs – Contact InfoMembership Info, Other Info and Spare/Substitute Details. Review each one of these tabs and update AND SAVE any information. For example, the following additions/changes can be made:

=  Any basic contact info such as address, phone #’s, email address, emergency contact info is under the first tab Contact Info

=  Membership Info is the section where you can change your username or password. Remember that you need to check if your username is “available” and if you change your password, it must meet the “strength” requirements (must contain 8 characters, an Uppercase character, a lowercase character, and a number). This is the area where you will find a copy of your membership and league registration. It will also show any money owing to the club or any club credits owed to you.

o    By default, you have “opted in” to receive email from the club as well as agreeing to share your email with other membersIf you wish to change these email settings, you can do so under the membership info tab. This may limit your ability to communicate (send and receive) with the club or other members.

= Under the Other tab, you will notice that we are collecting other information related to Smart Serve, Food Handlers and Coaching certificates. All of this helps in the running of the club and being able to communicate via email to select groups.

=  Under the Spare tab is where you will identify whether or NOT you want to be on Spare List. It will also show what positions and leagues you are willing to be a spare. This info will be made available to anyone seeking a spare in the FIND a SPARE screen under the Members tab.

The new website also has a lot of other information about the various Leagues that we have available. If you go to the Leagues tab, you will see all of our Leagues organized by type of league (Open, Doubles, Ladies, Team Entry and special) and time of day. Clicking on each of the Leagues will take you to pages that will show public information, member only information such as a Roster (names, phone #'s and email), Schedule, and Standings for that league.

A complete Member Directory is also available (check under Members) which will allow you to look up any member's phone # or email. You can also print out this complete listing to keep a hard copy handy. Other features of the Member area include a single screen to look up (or print) your own teams, schedules and events that apply to you. You will also be able to enter scores of your games on-line (assuming your league convenor allows this).

If you are a league manager or event manager (Bonspiel, etc.) you may have access to other areas of the system such as creating calendar entries or sending out emails, scheduling league games, etc.

Some newer features that we are implementing for 2023-2024 include the ability to specify what activities you are interested in volunteering. Volunteer coordinators will be able to use that information to schedule members for bonspiels and other events. Lastly, you will be able to go to the Calendar views (under Events tab) and schedule Practice Ice Time (in 30 minute increments) whenever it is available (usually Sunday between 3-6PM).
