A very successful first annual Shillelagh Bonspiel was well executed by first time conveners Brent Lepage and Dale Dixon and aided by the kitchen talents of Adrian Timmermans!
In addition to a professional format (1 draw, 2-10 end games with a break after 5 ends) the highlight was the make up of the teams - including an International Team from Taipei. The Taiwan National Curling Team no less ! Not very often that we have an international presence at the Ennismore Curling Club. As Brent Lepage said in an email to the team:
In a follow up Sunday morning exhibition game, the Taiwan National Team was narrowing beaten by a clutch skip shot by Tom McArthur in the 8the end !
As Brent Lepage said in a email to the team after the event:
You and your teammates do not realize what an impact you have had on our community. Everyone is buzzed with the excitement of your being here. It is like you shook up our normal routines. You have become our celebrities.
I have to thank you for picking our little Bonspiel to play your first games together. It was a pleasure to host your team.
We at Ennismore wish you all the luck in your endeavors to climb the ranks of nations and win the World Cup. We also hope that we will see you again.
In addition to other teams from Lakefield, Omemee and ECC there was an Under-15 girl's team from Norwood via PCC as well as the "2 Dads and their kids" including 8 year Lucy (with 4 years curling experience !) Here is an excellent picture of our very own Kathy Reid desperately sweeping against the impressive under 15 girls team.
And drawing rave reviews were the new ECC Kitchen aprons !
And lastly, here are the Winners from Omemee Curling Club - Team Hatfield.
Be sure to check out our Photos page for even more Bonspiel pics.
